We're part of something bigger

Kennecott Utah Copper and Kennecott Land are part of the global Rio Tinto company. It's a big company that employs 2,400 people in Utah and 65,000 worldwide. Since 1989, Rio Tinto has owned and operated the Bingham Canyon Mine and, later, the Daybreak community—and through our association with Rio Tinto we have made some big commitments. We think big. We generate big innovations, make big contributions to the community and, yet, we're part of something bigger.

That's why our business strategies and daily practices show a long-term commitment to sustainable development. And, that's why we focus many of our efforts on environmental stewardship, community outreach and corporate giving and we report our progress in these areas every year.

We do this because we know how important it is to meet the needs of today's generation without compromising the needs of tomorrow, and we do this while providing economic opportunities in the Salt Lake Valley and throughout the world.
